EDUCATION: “Dr. Harmon's Holocaust Studies students took part in the Crocus Project, an initiative of Holocaust Education Ireland. The aim of the project is to plant yellow crocus bulbs, each in memory of one of the 1.5 million children murdered during the Holocaust. The yellow flowers recall the color of the stars that Jews had to wear under Nazi rule. They will bloom toward the end of January, in time for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Dr. Harmon received fifty bulbs on a grant from the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh. Students chose to plant the bulbs in the landscape area below the school's scoreboard, symbolizing the lost years of play and youth.”
