Redbank Valley Search for Work Day 2019

The Redbank Valley Search For Work Day is a career initiative lead by Redbank Valley High School History Teacher, Mr. Blane Gold. Following a similar program from Mr. Gold’s previous experience as a student teacher at Rocky Grove High School, the Redbank Valley Search For Work Day is designed to better prepare high school students for the job search process. Students learn how to develop professional resumes and cover letters, prepare for interviews, and actually participate in a mock interview with local businesses representatives.

Local business representatives will be on hand to help students develop their job search skills. Representatives will be asked to critique students’ resumes and cover letters, conduct three mock interviews with students, critique students’ interview and communication skills, and provide guidance and advice on the best ways to pursue their career goals.

Search for Work Day is one of several efforts which engages the local business community with the school district. While mock interviews are to provide students with experience, there have been several instances where local businesses have been so impressed with the candidates, they’ve actually hired the student for a ‘real’ job that same day or upon graduation.

Mr. Gold shared, “It’s exciting to see how much this program has grown over the last four years. Our seniors consistently say that it is one of the most valuable learning experiences of their K-12 education. The best part about that feedback is the fact it is the community providing the experience. Thank you for choosing to make a difference in the lives of our kids.
