NB Officials, Mayor & Police Chief unveil ‘Key to the Community’

NEW BETHLEHEM, PA. (RVO) – Members of New Bethlehem Borough Council along with Mayor Gordon Barrows and New Bethlehem Chief of Police Robert Malnofsky Jr. unveiled ‘The Key to the Community’ this past Tuesday at the NB Civic Club’s February meeting at the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church.

Mayor Barrows along with Councilwoman Sandra Mateer started the program by co-presenting community goals, projects and activities for the New Bethlehem area and Redbank Valley community.

Each member of the Civic Club received a comprehensive packet of information which helped to answer the the most common questions, concerns and goals in Mayor Barrows strategic plan. Barrows enthusiastically shared highlights from his strategic plan, along with unveiling the golden ‘Key to the Community’ which will be used at ribbon-cuttings, grand-openings, anniversaries and other community events to represent New Bethlehem Borough Council & the Mayor’s support for economic prosperity.

Barrows shared, “I’m absolutely thrilled to see the ‘Key to the Community’ come to fruition and look forward to using it to proudly represent the New Bethlehem area and Redbank Valley community!”

Councilwoman Mateer presented a lengthy list of accomplishments that Borough Council has completed over the past several years, including the future projection of new goals and objectives for 2020 and beyond.

Mateer shared “Council has made great strides, especially in the last two years with new ordinances and enforcement and in the past several years working with community organizations such as Redbank Renaissance and Redbank Valley Trails Association to encourage economic development and promote community beautification.”

Chief Malnofsky concluded the program with an inspirational speech about the Police Department’s accomplishments over the past year, along with a very positive outlook for the department’s future growth and sustainability.

Malnofsky shared “It hasn’t been easy, and we still have a ways to go, but we’re making progress, and our residents are starting to see the improvements.”

A question & answer session followed the presentation where Civic Club members shared constructive feedback, suggestions and testimonials about the positive changes and improvements they’ve seen in the community with new businesses, ordinance enforcement and cleaning-up blighted properties, etc…

One Civic Club member shared how one of the local Police Officers stopped to ask if they needed help shoveling snow; “It was so kind of that officer to take time out of his busy schedule to offer his help.”

New Bethlehem Borough meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at the Alltel/Windstream Building on Lafayette Street. Folks may contact the Borough’s office to be placed on the meeting agenda.
