Local Church walks New Bethlehem for Good Friday
NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (RVO) – The New Bethlehem First United Methodist Church, led by Pastor Bud Davis, walked along the streets of New Bethlehem this afternoon to raise awareness for Good Friday. ‘Good Friday’ is the Friday before Easter Sunday, on which the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is commemorated. Crucifixion is the the execution or death of a person by nailing or binding them to a cross.
A small, but mighty crowd from the New Bethlehem United Methodist Church walked through the downtown business district of New Bethlehem this afternoon, holding a large cross to remind folks of the cross Jesus carried to his crucifixion. The crowd made several stops throughout the walk to join in worship, prayer and song.
Following the ‘Cross Walk’ the group had a time of reflection to share their experience. Various participants shared comments including;
‘What a somber and respectful experience. One can only imagine the pain and suffering Jesus experienced when he died for our sins’
‘I saw people in their businesses and those driving past watching our group. I know we brought people closer to our Lord Jesus Christ by way of outreach ministry and leading by example’
‘Thank you to everyone who attended today and shared this experience with one another and our local community’
Pastor Davis concluded the event with prayer and invited church members to bring a family member or friend to next year’s ‘Cross Walk’ so the Church can continue to grow their ministry beyond the walls of the church and throughout the New Bethlehem area and Redbank Valley community.
