Benefit for Cassie Westover

NEW BETHLEHEM, PA (RVO) – By Cecelia Harmon: Calling all pets! Cats and dogs (and their owners as well) are invited to Gumtown Park on Sunday July 22nd from 1 – 6 pm for an afternoon of fun, food, and even rabies shots to benefit Cassie Westover and her family.

Cassie Westover is a 15 year old high school student who was recently diagnosed with Esthesioneuroblastoma. She’s a God-loving, sweet, funny and intelligent girl. She always believes that “God’s got this”, and she has never lost her good spirit and humor during this battle. Currently, there are bracelets and t-shirts that can be purchased to show support and offset some of the expense for the Westover family. On August 11th, there is going to be a spaghetti benefit dinner at the Distant Baptist Church.

The majority of the event is animal themed. There will be pet nail trimming, a pet costume contest, and even a dog masseuse! Also, from 2 – 4 pm, Drummond Animal Hospital is hosting a rabies clinic for $10 a vaccination. For anyone with a dog (or cat) due for their rabies shot, this is a cost effective and more convenient opportunity to have that essential service performed.

To appeal to the humans, there will be a Chinese auction, food served by Distant Baptist Church, as well as multiple crafters and vendors including:

Hemp Worx with Darla Fox
LulaRoe with Breanna Crissman
Pink Zebra with Karen Bish
H+H Quilts with Heather Lytle
Fashion Threads with Janelle Yeany
Color Street with Joy Horner
Desiree Ann Photography
It Worx with Maxi Pennington
Just Us for the Animals
Holly’s Pet Massage with Holly Lennox

This benefit was largely put together by animal lover and friend of Cassie, Makayla Guntrum:

“I am so so excited! I’ve never organized a public event and to do one for such a good cause and such a wonderful friend and family makes it so worth while. Everyone I know has been praying for her and wearing their orange bracelets to remind them to pray. Cassie truly has got an amazing God healing her and a great support system from friends, family and community.”
