NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (RVO) – The Rev. Dr. Gordon V. Barrows, a local pastor and community leader from New Bethlehem, PA, has been honored with the 2024 Best Dissertation Award by Liberty University’s School of Divinity. This prestigious award recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding academic rigor, maintain a 4.0-grade point average, and graduate with the highest honors at the top of their class. Dr. Barrows was recognized for his exceptional research in Artificial Intelligence following his graduation in May 2024 with a Doctorate of Education in Theology/Divinity (EdD) from Liberty University’s Theological Seminary.
Dr. Barrows’ award-winning dissertation, titled “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Online Education for Recruitment, Retention, and Sustainability of Religious Organizations,” explores how AI chatbot technology can enhance online learning platforms for religious education and ministry training. The study focuses on developing an AI-powered chatbot to improve recruitment, retention, and sustainability within church communities, addressing the issue of declining membership. This innovative research is now available for download through the ProQuest Research Database and Liberty University’s Institutional Repository.
Dr. Barrows’ dissertation is also being used by the School of Divinity as a model to train other students to become “Champions for Christ.” His work exemplifies how technology can be leveraged to advance religious education and demonstrates the potential for innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by religious organizations.
The success of Dr. Barrows’ dissertation was supported by key collaborators, including Dave Green, the Redbank Valley Church Association publicity coordinator, whose technological insights were invaluable, and Matthew Green of TechReady Professionals, Inc., whose passion for technology helped shape the project’s direction. Additionally, Dr. Gary Bredfeldt, a professor of divinity at Liberty University and Dr. Barrows’ academic advisor, provided essential feedback and guidance.
“As a Champion of Christ, Barrows has positioned himself to become one of the nation’s top researchers, and one of the world’s leading triple doctors,” Bredfeldt remarked. “What truly set Barrows apart as a student was his dedication to helping his classmates succeed. He consistently encouraged and guided them, demonstrating that his own success lies in his ability to uplift those around him. Barrows exemplifies the qualities of servant leadership through his commitment to the success of others.”
Dr. Barrows’ academic journey is both extensive and impressive. He previously earned a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) in Technology/Digital Media from Liberty University in 2021. Building on this foundation, he completed his EdD in Theology/Divinity in 2024 and is currently pursuing his third doctorate, a PhD in Public Administration with a concentration in Economics/Finance, with an anticipated graduation in the Spring of 2026.
Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Barrows is deeply involved in his community. He serves as the Mayor of New Bethlehem, PA, the Lead Pastor of St. Mary’s Redbank Church, interim pastor of New Bethlehem First Fellowship Church, and guest pastor for the New Salem Pierce Church. As the President and CEO of TechReady Professionals, Inc., he uses his expertise in technology to support local businesses and advance educational opportunities.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Barrows expressed his gratitude to God, his family, and his community for their unwavering support. “Through God’s grace, I have been called into ministry to serve and glorify His name while fulfilling the Great Commission,” he said.
