School Board Member Seeks Clarification

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. by: John Gerow (RVO) – Redbank Valley School Board member Bill Reddinger took Redbank Valley dot Org (RVO) to task over the choice of words in a recent RVO headline.  RV Correspondent John Gerow titled his report on Monday night’s School Board Work Session, “District Hemorrhages Money as Hiring and Spending Continue”.  In a phone interview with RVO on Thursday morning, Mr. Reddinger said that the headline, and the tone of the article, did not present a fair picture of the Board’s decisions and efforts.

RVO reported on the District hiring a Special Education Supervisor and several Student Specific Aides.  Mr. Reddinger said that RVO made these seem like new hires, when in actuality, these are positions that RVSD has been paying for through agreements with the Riverview Intermediate Unit.  Reddinger went on to explain that the Directors believe that bringing these positions back “in house” will give the district better control over the employees, their salaries, and should give the district taxpayer’s “more bang for their buck”.

The regular monthly meeting of the Redbank Valley School Board will be on Monday evening, August 6 beginning with a work session at 6:30 P.M.
